About Chiquita...
I started my Reflexology career after being treated for several years with endometriosis and IBS. Knowing that I had surgery coming, I wanted to have an alternative way to treat myself after the operation, hoping to find a way to stop the disease from going further. A friend suggested I give reflexology a try. The practitioner came to my home to give me the session and I was able to pin point the reflexes that she was working on by the releases that I felt in my body. When she was working my abdomen reflexes I felt an incredible release to that area. I was also able to continue telling her the areas she was working on by the continued releases that I felt. After my recovery at home I kept noticing articles in the paper and news sections on Reflexology. It took me awhile, but I realized that I was getting a message to pursue getting information on the how to's on Reflexology. A short while later, the local university-college was offering a course on reflexology and I jumped on the Reflexology bus to where I am today.
That was already 7 years ago. Once I completed my course, I started working at a women's centre that sadly closed after only 1 year of opening it's doors. I then started an office with 2 wonderful women who practiced and taught Yoga and Tarot. This was a wonderful start for my career as a Reflexologist. It allowed me to share rent and work around my family of a husband and 2 young boys. It also allowed me to choose how often I wanted to work and take on furthering my education. This partnership grew and soon became too small for the 3 of us. I decided to stay in the office and my friends went on to create successful practices/stores on their own.
I upgraded my certificates in Auricular Therapy, Tui Na Massage, Reiki, Vertical Reflexology and Ear Coning. I also took a course in Lower Leg Acupressure to name a few.
When I started as a reflexologist I had visualized a 5 year goal for myself and my practice. It was realized when I opened a new 'Healing Centre' that is including some 'main stream' modalities. These include Physiotherapy and Massage. We also have a nurse one that offers counseling. It is wonderful to have these modalities work well with Reflexology, Ear Coning, Energy Work, as well as others.
Along with my practice I volunteer my time as a Board Member sitting as the Co-Chair of RAC National and as Librarian looking after the Olly Bailey books for RAC BC.
